NFL Week 10 Recap: Wins, Losses & Why Mental Health in Football Matters

Week 10 in the NFL was one for the emotional record books: frustration, relief, joy, shock, and a whole lot of “football is stupid,” as the Girlfriends put it. From brutal losses to standout wins (looking at you, Lions), plus one of the wildest international games of the season, this week reminded us why football fans need emotional support groups… or at least a lively Wednesday night podcast.

Here’s what went down on this week’s Girlfriends + Football recap.

When Football Feels Personal: 49ers & Bills Woes

The theme of the night was simple: football is stupid.

Dezi kicked things off, still recovering from the 49ers’ rough loss to the Rams, a game where both QBs somehow posted monster QBRs, yet the Niners’ defense just didn’t show up. Even “Third and Jauan” couldn’t save the day.

Beth followed with what can only be described as a Bills therapy session. Buffalo fans watched their team look flat, uninspired, and injury-ridden in a matchup they needed to win. Josh Allen’s post-game comments about the Dolphins “wanting it more” only added salt to the wound. As Beth put it:

“Get angry. Yell at someone. Show some fire.”

Buffalo’s depth issues, endless injuries, and trade-deadline frustration (they reportedly tried and failed to acquire Jaylen Waddle) made this one particularly painful.

A Bright Spot: Lions Bounce Back

Laura was the only Girlfriend with a good week, and she deserved it.

After a heartbreaking loss to Minnesota, the Lions walked into Maryland looking like a completely different team. The energy was back. The execution was sharp. And the biggest surprise? Dan Campbell was calling plays himself, reading glasses and all, and it worked.

Jahmyr Gibbs broke major records, climbing into the top seven all-time for touchdowns before age 24, and still has the rest of the season to climb higher. The Lions made adjustments, looked alive, and showed fans what growth actually looks like.

Game of the Week: Colts vs. Falcons in Germany

While the Sunday slate was chaotic, the Germany game stole the spotlight. Jonathan Taylor continued his MVP-level tear, the Colts delivered drama from start to finish, and even Sauce Gardner debuted in an Indianapolis jersey.

Overtime. Big plays. Bloodied faces. Nearly 50 fantasy points. This one had everything.

The Ugly: Rodgers, Russell & Monday Night Sleepwalkers

Aaron Rodgers had arguably the worst night of his season, three sacks, two interceptions, and a safety that produced one of the internet’s most unflattering viral photos. The Steelers didn’t look great either, but Rodgers looking 80 years old on the field was a storyline no one could ignore.

Meanwhile, Russell Wilson’s struggles have officially reached “difficult to watch,” and the Giants responded by firing Brian Daboll. The coaching carousel is spinning early this year.

And then there was Monday Night Football.
Hyped as a must-watch matchup… it landed with a thud. “Boring,” “dull,” and “like watching a baseball game” were just a few reviews. Even fans at the gym chose NBA reruns instead.

In the News: Remembering Paul Tagliabue

The episode also took a respectful moment to acknowledge the passing of former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue. His legacy includes league expansion, guiding the Saints through the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and shaping modern NFL operations.

Rate the Fit: Browns & Rams Take the Runway

The football wasn’t always pretty; but the fashion? Elite.

This week’s “Rate the Fit” crowned the Browns and Rams as style kings. Sean McVay showed up looking like he walked straight out of a GQ spread (hard for a 49ers fan to admit), and Commanders TE Zach Ertz delivered a clean, brunch-ready look that the Girlfriends couldn’t ignore.

Mental Health in the NFL: The Real Story Behind the Jokes

Between the laughs and hot takes, the Girlfriends kept circling back to something deeper: football takes a toll on players and fans alike.

Frustration. Pressure. Expectations. Injuries.
The emotional roller coaster isn’t just entertainment; it’s reality for the people on the field and the ones who love them.

As the Girlfriends remind us week after week:

Football is passion.
Football is chaos.
Football is community.
Football… is sometimes very, very stupid.

And that’s why we keep coming back.
