Episode 50: Big Injuries, Bold Insights & a 49ers Deep Dive with Steph Sanchez

Fifty episodes in, and the Girlfriends are just getting warmed up! This milestone week, Dezi, Beth, and Laura were joined by special guest Steph Sanchez, host of the 49Karats Podcast and co-host of Bully Ball, for an episode that blended expert analysis, heartfelt fandom, and plenty of laughs.

Celebrating 50 Episodes of Football, Friendship, and Fun

Fifty episodes means fifty weeks of talking touchdowns, sideline fashion, and cocktails worth cheering for. The girlfriends took a moment to celebrate how far they’ve come, from casual fans with a mic to a growing community of listeners who tune in each week for honest, funny, and female-driven football talk.

This week, though, the celebration came with a few deep sighs. The NFL injury list keeps growing, and the ladies dove into the hard truths of what those injuries mean for teams, especially for the San Francisco 49ers, who currently have nearly $96 million in injured players sitting out. Ouch.

Special Guest: Steph Sanchez Brings the 49ers Perspective

Steph joined to talk about the state of the Niners, the emotional rollercoaster of watching a team riddled with injuries, and the cautious optimism heading into MetLife to face the Giants. As she put it, “At this point, I’m not sure what version of this team we’re going to see, but I’ll be drinking a beverage either way.”

From discussing the “broken graph” of the Niners’ injury report to her viral Nick Bosa impersonation that even made NFL Network smile, Steph brought her trademark insight and humor to the conversation.

Injury Breakdown: Cam Skattebo & Ed Oliver

No episode of Girlfriends + Football would be complete without Dr. Beth’s expert breakdowns. This week, she unpacked two major injuries:

Cam Skattebo (Giants RB): A severe fracture dislocation that led to immediate surgery. The team discussed what recovery looks like and how infection risks and ligament damage complicate the road back.

Ed Oliver (Bills DT): A biceps rupture that could sideline him for much of the season, though there’s a small chance of a late-season return. Bills Mafia, keep the faith, and the wings, coming.

These medical moments aren’t just for shock value; they help fans understand what players endure beyond the highlight reel.

From Sideline Chic to Game-Day Sips

Even amid the tough topics, the girlfriends never forget to have fun. Between analyzing fits of the week, rating sideline style, and raising a glass (or mocktail) to another week of football, the show kept its trademark mix of heart and humor.

Laura shared her Lions pride (even on a bye week), Beth worked through her Bills emotions, and Dezi owned up to her 49ers stress, proving that fandom is both therapy and community.

Here’s to the Next 50

As the girlfriends wrapped up, they took a moment to thank everyone who’s joined them on this wild ride: listeners, guests, and the fans who keep showing up in the comments and live chats every Wednesday night.

Whether you’ve been here since Episode 1 or you’re just joining the party, you’re part of the Girlfriends + Football family.
