Everything Feels Right Again: Week 7 Highlights, Cocktails, and Teachable Moments

After a rollercoaster of losses in Week 6, everything felt right again in Week 7, and the Girlfriends were here for it. With two teams (Lions and 49ers) back in the win column, and the Bills on a well-deserved bye, the energy on this week’s episode was as vibrant as a Sunday tailgate and twice as entertaining.

Lions’ Redemption and the Birth of “The Legion of Whom”

Laura kicked things off with a celebration of the Detroit Lions’ redemption arc. After a rough loss to the Chiefs, the Lions came roaring back to beat Tampa Bay, a win that not only helped heal Detroit hearts but also brought forth one of the best fan moments of the season.

With their entire secondary decimated by injuries, the Lions fielded a lineup of “scrubs and rookies” who rose to the occasion. The result? A new nickname born from the fan forums: “The Legion of Whom,” a perfect nod to a defense full of unknowns who made everyone know their names. The Girlfriends loved it so much they started brainstorming merch ideas on air.

Niners Glory and the Great Football Balance of the Universe

Dezi brought the energy as she recapped the Niners’ dominant win, calling head coach Kyle Shanahan a “frickin’ legend” and a front-runner for Coach of the Year. Christian McCaffrey earned NFC Offensive Player of the Week with over 200 yards and two touchdowns, truly a “had himself a day” performance.

But as Dezi pointed out, something mystical was at play in Week 7. “It’s like the football universe reset itself,” she joked, connecting the Lions’ win over the Bucs (who beat the Niners) and the Niners’ revenge on the Falcons (who had beaten the Bills). All that was left? The Bills taking down the Chiefs to complete the circle of football justice.

The AARP Game and Joe Flacco’s Comeback Energy

The Girlfriends couldn’t stop laughing over Thursday night’s matchup, affectionately dubbed “The AARP Game.” Joe Flacco, playing like a man on borrowed time (and maybe an AARP card), threw beautiful spirals and reminded everyone he still had it.

Beth noted how exhausted Flacco looked at the end: “He was just like, thank God it’s over.” Dezi quipped, “He was ready for the couch.” The running joke continued as they imagined Flacco collapsing into a recliner mid-interview.

“In the News”: Russell Wilson vs. Sean Payton Drama

Next up was In the News, where the Girlfriends unpacked the brewing tension between Russell Wilson and Sean Payton. After Payton made a jab suggesting the Giants keep Wilson as quarterback only until after facing his team, Wilson clapped back on social media: “Classless but not surprised.”

The conversation turned fiery and fun as the Girlfriends debated whether Payton’s comments crossed the line, with unanimous agreement that Wilson was right to call him out. “Football is a soap opera,” Dezi said, “and we’re just watching it unfold one tweet at a time.”

Rate the Fit: Tight Ends and Timeless Style

The Rate the Fit segment was extra special this week, not only for the top-notch fashion but also because it coincided with National Tight Ends Day.

The top picks were:

  • #3: Jonnu Smith of the Steelers, rocking an all-black sports ensemble with major “guns out” energy.

  • #2 (Tie): Abraham Lucas channeled pure vintage swagger in a 1930s-style three-piece suit that gave mobster-meets-speakeasy vibes.

  • #1 (Tie): Mack Wilson Sr. of the Cardinals, in khakis and a pink jacket, honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Month with style and heart.

The Girlfriends had plenty to say about fashion, function, and finding the perfect hat (Beth, we’re still waiting to see if Gabe gets one).

Teachable Moment: Get the Squish

From pink jackets to pink ribbons, the conversation took a heartfelt turn as Dezi shared her new Kristen Juszczyk sports bra purchase, part of a Breast Cancer Awareness campaign benefiting research foundations. That led to this week’s Teachable Moment: take care of your health.

The Girlfriends reminded everyone that one in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer, but early detection saves lives. “It’s just a quick squish,” Laura said, encouraging everyone to schedule their mammograms and self-checks. “Get the squish done,” Dezi added, perfectly summing it up.

Sports and Medicine: When Highlights Hurt

Wrapping things up, the Sports and Medicine segment featured an analysis of Mike Evans’ shoulder injury during the Bucs game. Dezi broke down the biomechanics of his fall, noting how the impact likely caused the fumble, and how easily such hits can turn into major setbacks. It was equal parts insightful and cringeworthy (“We could feel that one!”).
